New Zealand High Commission takes up World XIII call
After the recent call from the Political Animals to Embassies, High Commissions and political staff around the world to come together to create a World XIII side to play the UK politicians’ rugby league side, the New Zealand High Commission have risen to the challenge with three staff from the High Commission signed up to play.
The game will be the first international side the Animals have played and will take place on the morning of the Rugby League World Cup Final on Saturday 30 November. New Zealand are the current World Cup holders and are looking to defend their crown during the tournament which kicks off at the Millennium Stadium on October 26.
The Animals recently wrote to High Commissioners and Ambassadors of nations taking part in RLWC2013 or who are Members of the Rugby League International Federation to invite them or their officials to take part.
On hearing the news, Animals Club Captain Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland said “This game is designed to bring people together through shared love of rugby league and it is wonderful that New Zealand High Commissioner Sir Lockwood Smith has seen it in that spirit. We are grateful to him for taking the time to pass to High Commission officials and, of course, we are very much looking forward to taking the field against Teariki, Tredegar and David.”
“We hope the other High Commission and Embassies follow suit to create a true World XIII.”>
