Catherine West MP named as Political Animals Parliamentary Captain
Catherine West MP has become the Parliamentary Captain of the Political Animals RLFC.
The Political Animals are a rugby league club comprised of politicians and political staff from all major parties, and have played matches against charitable and representative sides since 2010.
As Parliamentary Captain, Catherine will provide an important link to Parliament, as the Animals seek to provide opportunities for more MPs, Peers and political staff to play rugby league, and also see the important work that the sport does in the community.
The Animals play an annual game against a London Select XIII in West’s constituency of Hornsey and Wood Green, also home to London Skolars RLFC.
Political Animals founder and former Member of Parliament for Leeds North West, Greg Mulholland, remains as Club Captain, whilst MR Sport continue to support the club.
Member of Parliament for Hornsey and Wood Green and Political Animals Parliamentary Captain, Catherine West MP, said “I am delighted to become Political Animals Parliamentary Captain, and look forward to supporting the work of the club.
“Rugby league is a fantastic game that delivers huge benefits in my constituency and across the United Kingdom, and I hope that the Political Animals will continue to ensure that more politicians have the opportunity to experience the game.
Political Animals Club Captain, Greg Mulholland, said “the Animals play an important role in spreading rugby league to politicians and political staff who have not previously played the game.
“I’m very pleased that Catherine has agreed to become Parliamentary Captain, and look forward to returning to her constituency of Wood Green to take on a London Select XIII later this year.”
